I try not to bore people with the details of my life and non-skate related news but this past trip to LA was somewhat interesting and maybe worth the read.

If you’ve ever hung out with me for an extended period of time you know I don’t go 5 minutes without consuming something who’s second ingredient is high fructose corn syrup, I photograph a lot of the meals I eat and I watch Man vs. Food- A LOT. Thus, Shiner has dubbed me a “secret fatty.” A smaller person with the eating habits of someone typically much larger than them.
Trips back to the West Coast usually mean a lot of catching up on good mexican food and mexican candy mixed in with riding my skateboard here and there. This trip would be no different so I got started early.

I went up to New York the night before and my plan was to stay up all night then head to JFK for my 7am flight to LAX. The majority of my time was spent in Brooklyn at a Ninjasonik show with the homie George from QuestNY. The show brought out a lot of hipsters and art school girls.

If you know you have a 5 hour flight ahead of you, why not stay up all night so you can pass out for the entire trip?

I plugged Virgin American Airlines enough in the last post but their planes interior does look like a club.

Got woke up by the pilot of see the Grand Canyon from above. Still haven’t not seen it from below. Somewhere down there is where Bob Burnquist 5-0′d to cliff dive out.

Not sure if this is exactly where people skate but this looks like the spot on the LA River people wallie into the bank- then hope to stop before they hit the disease infested water.

Mandatory LAX hallway shot for me. Mad artsy.

My friend Vince picked me up form the airport (Thanks Vince) and we went straight to Los Tacos.

I love La Lupita on 4th St and all but there’s something about tacos on the west coast that makes them better. Maybe its the same reason you can’t get good pizza out there too. It’s probably in the water.

We all know that you can get “medicinal” marijuana in California. I’m not here to advocate or discourage the use of weed for meidcal purposes but it is a little surreal to flip through a magazine 4x thicker than a Pulse Weekly just advertising places in LA you can buy weed- if you have a medical percription. It’s said that there are more “herbal centers” than Starbucks in LA now.

Mandatory palm tree shot for the trip.

Vince and his fiance’ are expecting a baby boy so I got taken to some of the highest end stroller dealers. I know more about strollers than I ever thought I needed. They also sold these “bottle pets.” Suspect.

Ever see Boyz n’ the Hood? Colors? Training Day? Listen to Dr. Dre? The Game?

So you know why I had to stop at the liquor store then right?

Exactly. Mexican candy and flaming hot Cheetos with lime.

Pico is basically like eating a packet of Sugar in the Raw but its a little spicy with a hint of lime. It’s good by itself or on fruits like mangos and oranges.

Pulparindo is made of my favorite mexican candy ingredient- tamarind, a naturally sour fruit but its sweetened and in this case, also spicy. Pretty much all mexican candy is sweet, spicy and sour.

Pica Fresca was a new one for me. Picture eating a strawberry fruit snack with a chile lime powder over it. Yeah, pretty delicious.

I noticed Flaming Hot Cheetos recently made it to the East Coast. They’ve been around the West for years now. Maybe Chester Cheeto didn’t think you were ready for the flavor? Who knows. But what I do know is he’s still holding out on these Flaming Hot with Li’mon joints. At least I’ve never seen them at my local Wawa, Pantry 1 or A Plus gas station. If you’ve seen them- let me know.

While driving around LA you can almost always see famous skate spots like Car Wash bank, hip and roof drop on Figueroa.

Some small basketball team plays here- I forget who they are but there are rails, a huge hubba ledge and lots of ledges you can skate around back at the Staples Center.

Almost everyone in L.A. has a dog. The majority f those dogs are small cute dogs that girls love. Whether guys have them because of their girlfriend or to get girls- who am I to judge? My friends are no different so meet Milo and Ari.

My older brother got home from work, he’s the design director at L-R-G so we went to a fancy dinner at a French bistro, Monsieur Marcel. I think there’s an accent mark in the name someplace but I forget.

After eating we proceeded to “borrow” the mini pine tree on the table so they’d have a Christmas tree for the apartment.

So I lost my driver’s license at some point between the plane ride and dinner. I went to order a drink with my dinner and realized it wasn’t in my wallet or any of my pockets. We had a birthday party to go to that night so I had to use one of my brother’s old ID’s. I’ve been the legal drinking age for 7 years now and that was my first time ever using a fake/other person’s ID.
It was funny being nervous as I handed it over to the bouncer. Luckily, he probably was the type to say “all Asian people look the same” so I got in.
After last call, I ended up being the DD so I made a mandatory stop at the local taco truck for Mexican meal #2.

Tomorrow: Following Man vs. Food and The Berrics.
