skateboarding returns to mayfair.

One of the first local skate events I went to here in the Valley was the skate contest Aaron Frobase used to put on at Mayfair.  I remember seeing Ray doing melon grabs over barriers- which I recently found out a photo was run in the Morning Call with me in the background.  Mike Emery and Dave Hill, who I didn’t know at the time were there skating too.  That might have been the last year Aaron put on the contest because on “insurance issues” and that was the last time a skate contest was held a public event in the Lehigh Valley.

My friend David who put on the Mayfair Breakdance Challenge mentioned Mayfair was looking for new attractions to get more people to come out to the 5 day arts and music festival on Cedar Beach.  After a conversation at the shop about how hyped people got on those little skate events I made a few calls to Mayfair.   Played phone tag, sent a few e-mails and finally got in touch with Terry Glennon, the program director and we got ready for another demo.

Skateboarding made it’s return to Mayfair.

Got up at 8am and the sun was out so we (Chad and me) got the ramps moved before the crowds gathered.

This trailer is a lifesaver.  Thanks Darren and thanks Casey for letting us the truck.

I had to race back to Homebase to open up shop- a half hour late.  It’s an endless job running a skateshop that actually does regualr events (good time to plug the Memorial Day Kickoff for Monday Night Saugy Sessions)

Had to watch our homie Kerry’s Battle Commander on The Berrics before we could leave.

Maybe next year we’ll be able to continue the tradition and hold a contest for y’all.

More photos and video from Bubba and Max coming soon.  Peep Geech’s since he blogs quickly.
