shovel & skate 2011: one year ago

Remember last year’s Winter? It was snowstorm after snowstorm and then freezing temperatures that forced the City to close the skateplaza because of all the ice that accumulated on top of everything.  It was just about a year ago to this day that Winter starting letting up and we were allowed to shovel out the plaza so we could finally skate again.

YouTube Preview Image Shovel & Skate 2011. With the support of the Parks & Rec Department, Homebase organized skaters and BMXers to clear out the snow and ice in the plaza so we could officially re-open it for 2011.

It’s definitely been a much different kind of Winter this year. We’ve been pretty much able to skate Phase 1 all Winter long minus the freak snowstorm in October.  Now we’re about to see the start of construction Phase 2 but don’t forget- THE SKATEPLAZA NEEDS YOUR HELP NOW.

We’ve said it before and we’ll keep saying it again:

WE ARE STILL APPROXIMATELY $40,000.00 SHORT OF THE FUNDS NEEDED TO BUILD THE COMPLETE 2ND PHASE. If those funds can not be raised before the construction ends in the late Summer, we will have a huge gap of dead space in the the middle of the skateplaza.  Yes, the plaza will double in size but it will only double in actually skateable obstacles if we as a skate community, BMX community and community that supports the skateplaza’s growth rally together now.

The skateplaza does not need a lot of money from a few people, IT NEEDS A SMALL AMOUNT OF MONEY FROM A LOT OF PEOPLE.  Truth is, A LOT of people FREELY use the skateplaza and now is the time we all step up and give back.

The Bethlehem Skateplaza Buy-A-Brick fundraiser is one way you can contribute to the cause for a $50-$100 tax-deductible donation.  You will get to inscribe your brick with a personal message and your brick will forever be a part of the skateplaza.
