it’s official: red bull’s manny mania will be at the banana factory this sunday

FINALLY, I have permission to give you the details on the Red Bull Manny Mania Qualifier being held on Sunday May 30th in the Banana Factory parking lot on 3rd Street.

Not that we don’t already have a banner on our site telling you that or if you come into Homebase you’ll be told about the contest, see posters plastered around the shop and be given a speech and flyer about it. . . . we just not have “official” permission to tell you about it now.

Now the big question, “How do I enter?”

REGISTRATION:

- Show up between 12pm-1:30pm and proceed to the Red Bull Manny Mania Registration table and fill out a contest and waiver form.

- All competitors must 18 or older or have a legal guardian present to sign off on the waiver.

- If you are under 18 and your guardian will not be with you, print out the waiver form off THIS LINK, get the form filled out at a notory and bring it with you.

- A waiver must be on file before you are allowed to skate.

One more time, HERE IS THE WAIVER

THE SET-UP:

Chad Shaner, is responsible for Homebase’s demo ramps, our private mini ramp, a HUGE part of the Bethlehem Skateplaza design team and now, the Red Bull Manny Mania Ramp Set-Up.

His vision was to create a Manny Mania set-up that would appeal to the diversity of East Coast Skateboarding.  The use of wallie corners, pole jams, street gaps, tight banks and quick set-ups all play a part in street skating on the rugged East.  We don’t session perfect ledges and rails; we deal and adapt to the flaws of centuries old architecture.  Hopefully, we’ll see a contest that mixes both the creative and technical abilities of skaters and see what comes out on top.

Not pictured in the course layout are the movable polejam and flatbar which should ad some diversity to the set-up.

JUDGING:

The judges of the contest are 5Boro Skateboards Pro, Dan Pensyl

Zoo York Pro and last year’s Pro Manny Mania Champ, Eli Reed (far left)

and Focus Skate Mag editor, Mike Mazur.

Contest Heats:

Skaters will compete in 7 minute heats and scored for the tricks they land- more difficult tricks get higher scores.  The top 2 skaters from each Round 1 heat will advance to the semi-finals and then the top 3 skaters will compete in a final 10 minute round.

MORE EVENTS:

In addition to the skate contest, we will also have a demo by the 5Boro Skateboards and Homebase team, a benefit BBQ compliments of the Source Bike Shop and try your luck on the Homebase Raffle Wheel to raise money for the Bethlehem Skateplaza.

For a small donation you might walk away with a gift bag, a new deck, a pair of shoes or who knows. . .  Maloof Money Cup tickets?

THE AFTER PARTY:

Come out, celebrate Homebase’s birthday, enjoy the holiday weekend and support the Bethlehem Skateplaza.
