Supporters of the Bethlehem Skateplaza,
Congressmen Charlie Dent recently attacked the Bethlehem Skateplaza project in a recent speech:
“Dent suggested the city cut waste, such as a planned $1 million skate park that, while financed mostly by grants, will require $100,000 from city coffers.”

The accusation the Mayor is “spending” 1 million is false. We’re getting our own funding so if it wasn’t for the skateplaza- none of the money would even be in the City’s bank accounts.
Like I said before, it’s like a kid getting scholarships and grants to go to college and his parents saying he can’t go because the family needs the money.
The money is not transferable.
Donors, sponsors and the State would ask for the money back. As far as the $100,000 Dent is referring to- I believe those are funds given to us by a committee of community leaders from the Southside 2014 committee who decided the skateplaza project deserved that money to benefit the community. If it’s not going to the skateplaza it would be spent on other community projects.
We should all realize the for good or bad this is a politically charged project so it will be used to help or slander someone.
If you would like to help the cause, please respectfully write or call Charlie Dent’s office and let him know that the community wants to see this project build.
