Homebase for Haiyan Relief

The majority of America is getting ready to start the Holiday shopping season after Thanksgiving.  Why not get started a little early and help people in need at the same time?

Typhoon Haiyan, touched down on the island of Leyte a little over a week ago with up to 235 mph winds as one of the strongest storms ever recorded.  To put that in perspective Hurricane Sandy ravaged the East Coast with winds up to 89 mph.

Many of the people who live in area of the Philippines live in make-shift shelters made of sheet metal and wood- not structural sound concrete structures like here in the States.

It’s not wonder the island was completely decimated.

People lost everything and the death toll is so high no one can report the number of dead correctly.  The images black bagged bodies in mass graves is more than enough to paint the grim picture.

YouTube Preview ImageCNN’s, Andersen Cooper’s report from Tacloban City describes the situation honestly 5 days after the storm.  10 days later aid from American and other countries is arriving to help the people displaced by the super storm but more will be needed as the world begins forget and moves on to the next piece of big news.

Homebase Skateshop and Supra Footwear are teaming up with NAFCON, The National Alliance for Filipino Concerns, a non-profit organization focused on supporting the needs of the Philippines on all fronts.  With their direct ties to “Bayanihan Alay sa Sambayanan or BALSA (People’s Cooperation for the People), a national grassroots relief and rehabilitation organization composed of broad church-based organizations, schools, disaster response NGOs, and individuals, working with victims of disasters in the Philippines (from the NAFCON, Taskforce Haiyan press release)” it is our hope that our donations will make it to the people need it faster than bigger corporate relief agencies- although if you choose to use UNICEF of the Red Cross, that is also appreciated.

From Novemeber 22 til Thanksgiving, 100% of the profits from Homebase brand apparel & Supra Footwear sales will be donated to Taskforce Haiyan .

If you would like to make a donation directly, we would suggest donating to NAFCON through their website: www.NAFCONUSA.org
