Agenda Long Beach was done.  Headed back to LA and got a proper greeting from my older brother and nephew, Desmond.

And the first thing we do in LA is eat at Mario’s, a look-key looking Peruvian restaurant that always has a mob of people waiting to get in.  Probably the best ceviche I’ve ever had.

If you have a lot of stuff to do, I don’t recommend eating Lomo Saltado for lunch.  Meat, onions, french fries AND rice= food coma.

So remember that photo I was looking for on The Hundreds Blog then realized it was all blacked out to protest SOPA?  This is that photo.

Tepper and crew killed the wall of De La Barracuda in honor of Pepper.  RIP

After seeing all the renovation photos on Instagram, I had to stop by the Diamond Flagship store to see everything for myself.  Killed it.

I think my brother only comes to Fairfax when I’m in town.

Did my “research” and checked out all the usual suspects on the block: The Hundreds, RVCA, DOPE, Reserve, Supreme, Flight Club, Hall of Fame and the new Odd Future shop where HUF was.

Damn, dinner already.  California Shabu Shabu.  We need one of these in the Lehigh Valley.

Art was also a big focus of skateboarding at the start of the month as Japanese artist Haroshi teamed up with DLX Distribution and HUF Clothing brand to release a very special, very thought out (the decks used in the project were from select pros, to help draw on the connection a rider has with their deck) ,collection of clothing.

Speaking of  Keith Hufnagel, he celebrated a birthday this month also (he’s 38, you stair counters).  It got me thinking about how naturally Hufnagel has been in skateboarding for decades and always offered a stylish and powerful product. From huge ollies in NY , to speed lines in SF. From ill shoe designs with multiple companies , to becoming “HUF” the brand. Even the kid in Elf wanted a “Real Huf Board”.

Huf has been able to do this without a loud mouth, or an overbearing personality. He just keeps it clean and powerful, again, a skaters skater. Stop in this weekend to get a chance to own a piece of the Haroshi x DLX x HUF release.

He works, goes to school and spends all his free time skating, shooting photos and filming.  Not just at the local spots and plaza, but he’s always traveling to Philly, NJ and NYC with his crew.

On these trips he meets up with skaters from other cities that end up coming to Bethlehem to check out our spots.  Whether he knows it or not, he’s helping grow the skateboarding scene in the 610.  It’s a cliche now but that’s what’s unique about skating- you can become friends with anyone else just based on the fact you all skate.

Granted, not everyone sees eye to eye with him but Matt just quietly keeps skating, filming and working on his homie video, “When Push Comes to Shove.” Hate him or like him, he’s doing what we loves.  Tons of people hated on our early videos too Matt.  Just keep it moving.
