ever get frostbite?

I think I may have had some early symptoms of frostbite while hanging out all day at the Red Bull Rail Jam in Downtown Easton this past Saturday.

Granted it wasn’t “that cold” of a day but thinking that is exactly how I ended up with frozen feet and hands.  When I left my house the sun was out and it felt relatively warm compared to the days we’ve been having so I headed out without a heavy coat, beanie or gloves.

Standing in the same place for 6 hours handing out stickers and prizes in the shade does not help the blood stay in circulation.  My hands and feet were so numb I started wondering if I was at risk of getting frostbite.

I think I may have been according to the symptoms on HealthScout.com:

Symptoms of Frostbite

Common warning signs include a progressive numbness and a loss of sensitivity to touch. The affected area will also tingle or feel as if it is burning. As the condition worsens, the pain begins to fade or eventually disappear. (CHECK)

The skin also changes color when exposed to extreme cold. It blanches, then may appear red, and finally white-purple if allowed to freeze. (CHECK)

Most people say the affected part of the body feels “wooden,” and it may appear to have a wooden texture. (CHECK)

Frostbite can affect any part of the body, but the tip of the nose, ear lobes and rim, fingertips, and toes are the most likely areas. (CHECK)

I could only feel down to my ankles so when I walked it felt like I had wooden bricks attached to my legs.  Wooden blocks that hurt with each step.

Definitely kind of sketched out but it was worth it.  We had a line of kids, families and homies all psyched on spinning the raffle wheel for a chance to win the 61SNOW Division T-Shirt (now available online).

CJ came through and did his thing but unfortunately I didn’t see a single rail get “slid” the entire time- the crowd was too big.

This is about all I saw of the snowboarding that day.

Seeing all the kids hyped on getting free Hundreds and L-R-G stickers was dope.  Pretty beat I went into this event with no Homebase stickers . . . more on their way though.  Hooking up the masses at the next one.

Congrats to Drinky’s, Red Bull, Big Boulder for putting on a great event.  Thank you to the City of Easton for making it happen.  Huge thanks to event judge/coordinator Dave Smith and Amanda Christensen at Red Bull for getting Homebase involved.

Of course, I couldn’t have done this without the homies who came out to hold it down with me at the table- Hill, AJ, Andrew from Simply Anti, Kurtz, B-Space and Buddy.  That’s Buddy . . .
