dirty days in jersey
Categories: Procrastinate, Skateboarding, videos
I’m down for Jersey. I got homies out there. Plus, there are good skate spots to be found- even if they are empty building foundations.
Last Saturday Ray, Colbert, Hill and I went to skate the abandoned foundation spot in Jersey City. A while back the locals but marble on the cinder block boxes there and build a few other obstacles. Sometimes you just gotta leave the Valley and skate something that’s not Keck.
If you ever go to this spot, be sure you pay attention for the light rail trains cruising through the city. One cuts through the road that takes you to the dirt lot you park in and there’s no guard rail, no bells and whistles and no sirens when the train is coming. Luckily, Colbert was in the backseat WHISPERING- “Hey, train. . . yo, train, trains coming…. “ Thanks Colbert.
Granted I should have been paying attention but long story short, I stopped, the train passed and we parked. Alive and well, we walked toward a fenced off area that looked like we should have been walking the other way. It also had signs like this hanging up. . . . ehhhh, no biggie right?
Toxic warning signs forgotten we climbed the hill of broken cinder blocks to find a paradise only a skateboarders could love.
Cement ledges, boxes covered by marble, flat bars, flat gaps, a gnar gap and tons of rocks throw around- kids like throwing rocks.
Colbert killed it like he always does. Hill got tech. I did frontboards. Ray most enjoyed the tranny obstacle.
So much he came back the next week with the Lost Soul crew and they put together this little clip shredding in NJ. Thank God they filmed this because I was kind of too lazy . . . I mean, I was too hyped on skating to flim.
If you stop at Franks Pizza in Jersey City, get a HUGE $1 slice, a free quarter water and tell Frank we said what’s up.
