A lot of people are wondering what’s up with the 80’s Halloween Jam theme.  I know that not everyone remembers the 80’s- some of you weren’t even born in the 80’s let alone remember what skating was like.  To be honest I was not skating in the 80’s but I’ve watched the videos, I’ve seen the steez and dammit- I’m hyped on it.

If you want to throw together a good 80’s costume remember these 3 things:

1) PATTERNS: NEON or ANIMAL

2) CUT OFF SLEEVES AND JEANS

3) HIGHTOPS, HAT BRIM FLIPPED UP & HAIR IN FACE

Watch these videos for further inspiration to get you hyped on Saturday’s contests:

The 5boro Death Race.
- We’ve all bombed the hill from Saugy to the parking lot.  No big deal right?  Think about doing that with 10, 15 or 20 people all going as fast as they can to get to the bottom to claim a 5Boro Deck & Homebase Giftbag.

The Lost Soul Launch Ramp Jump-off.

- Maybe you grew up doing early grab method airs or maybe you have no idea what a judo air looks like.  Either way, just remember get air, grab  your board and tweak it for all its worth . . . then roll away.  Launch ramp skating is about style- your skate style and the flair you wear.  The steeziest skater will win a Lost Soul Giftbag.

The Homebase Slalom Invitational.

- Better loosen those trucks or dig out that plexi-glass board in your garage your dad used to ride.  The smaller the wheel base the better turns you’ll make.  Each skater will get one turn on the launch ramp to get speed and the fastest time through the cones without knocking them over will win a Homebase Giftbag.

In addition to the 80’s themed contests we will also be holding the Saugy S.K.A.T.E. Showdown Finals:  Kyle Dalrymple vs. Dustin Martinez.  There’s $300 on the line so you know both skaters will be bringing some their flatground skills.  We’ll also be hosting a 2009 Best Trick Contest on a to-be-decided obstacle so make sure you have your popsicls-stick deck to do some flip-in, flip-out grinds and slides.

Currently the weather is still calling for chances of showers on Saturday.

IF we get rained out Sunday October 25th will be the rain date.

If you use Facebook, invite your homies to the jam HERE.
