a memorial day weekend to remember. full event coverage

This Memorial Day Weekend marked Homebase’s 7 Year Anniversary and 1 year at the new shop location.  Without getting overly sentimental it has been a long road filled with skateboarding, old friends, new faces, stress, triumphs, heartbreak and love.  So many people have played such a big part in making Homebase what it is and I just want to thank everyone who has ever set foot in the shop, came to an event, slapped a sticker on their board and held us down for the past 7 Summers.  You are Homebase’s heart.

We started the weekend by bringing skateboarding back to Mayfair- with the help of our BMX counterparts, The Source Bikeshop on Saturday the 23rd.

The sun ducked in and out of the dark clouds and we got reports of hail around the Valley as we got set up our ramps but thankfully everything worked out til the very end.

Thanks to all the people who helped shoot photos and take video:  NoNo, Max, Eskandalo Alison, Mike Emery and Geech.  This post is a collection of everyone’s photos- hope I got all the photo credits right.

It ended up being a nice day.  A nice, hot, humid, long day of skating for our crowd that demanded the most extreme manuevers or blood.  Not really- although blood was drawn.

Bubba .  360 flip- video footage below (Max)

Bubba drew the biggest cheers after landed this tre flip.  Some people thought my idea to stack the wedges wouldn’t work but luckily Bubba held it down and didn’t make me look dumb.  Thanks Bubba.  He also edited this clip which pretty much sums up the day . . .

This is Nick.  He DJ’s for funnel cake. (Alison)

Nick saved us by bringing his sound equipment after 2 DJ’s couldn’t make it.  having music definitely helps keep the energy up when you’re tired.  You could be totally drained but then you hear The Cure “Just like Heaven” and you’re good to go for another 3 hours.

After a full day of skating and BBQ’ing, no better way to close the day out with . . . . another BBQ.

Thanks again to all our friends, family, supporters for giving us these past 7 years to serve the 610 skateboarding scene.  I look forward to many more.
