a laborious weekend.

Quite the Labor Day Weekend here at Homebase. Hope y’all enjoyed your unofficial last weekend of Summer- even though today it still feels like Summer is in full effect.  We had a whole lot going on in town too from First Friday to skate trips to Philly and the premiere of “Stay Gold.”

Let’s start from the beginning of the weekend, Friday and the opening of Lornography’s L.V.A.N. art show “9 Muses.”

Lorna’s photographs typically showcase beautiful young ladies in . . . artistic attire and settings.  Our collection of photographs was a little more PG-13 than her usually shows but it’s definitely enough to get your heartbeat up.

Not to mention some of her muses were posing in our front window- live and in the flesh.  Beautiful women scantily clad in our window?  That’s a good start t any weekend.

Thanks to Lorna, The L.V.A.N. and all the lovely Muses. Stop by and see what you missed.  The show will be hanging until the end of October.  There are also limited edition prints that will benefit the Nature Conservancy to help the animals effected by the Gulf oil spill.

Saturday was the Stay Gold Best Trick Contest and video premiere.  Originally we wanted to do an outdoor premiere for Emerica’s newest video at the skateplaza but due to high winds blowing in from Hurricane Earl we had to bring everyone inside.

The night started off with a Best Trick Contest at the skateplaza and since we were celebrating the release of one of the gnarliest skate videos to come out in a while of course we were doing the contest down the gap, rail and hubba.

Lots of hucking going on during this jam.  Peep Matt Pepe’s edit of the contest and see who came out on top.

After the best trick we brought everyone back to Homebase for the premiere of “Stay Gold.”  This was probably the most crowded video premiere we’ve ever done.

We tried to play a promo clip for our homies from The Source Bikeshop but the burned DVD wouldn’t read on our DVD player.  Blowing it over here.  Sorry Guys!

By the time we got Stay Gold in the DVD player it was standing room only.

We raffled off a copy of Stay Gold for a small donation to the skateplaza and AJ came out on top.  He killed it in the contest so all in all he had a pretty good day.

We’re currently sold out of Stay Gold DVDs but more will be in next week.

Not much happened on Sunday.  A lot of people were out of town including Ray and a small crew that went down south for Ray’s art show opening in Myrtle Beach.  Hurricane Earl was supposed to hit hard down there but luckily all that happened was they got some sweet waves to get tube’d in.

I know a lot of retail shops stay open on Labor Day and hold crazy sales- not us.  I took off to Philly to do some real street skating and hang out with the homies for once.  Sometimes I get trapped in the Southside and skateplaza but it’s always good to get away every once and a while.  No offense y’all.

Pretty much these “skating” trips turn into excuses for me to eat lots of food and take pictures of them.  Like these gas station corn dogs to start the trip.  Delicious.

Isn’t this the Mountain Dew Antwuan Dixon was hyped on in his interview?

Clearly I came to skate with this shirt on.

Before we got into Philly we hit up some hidden gems Brett Barto put me onto a while back.  Thanks Brett and those long bike rides.

This trip’s crew was Geech behind the wheel, Steinert in shotgun and Pat Villa and me in the back- steady eating.

Clearly all the skating at the plaza prepped these guys for the real streets- they killed it while I documented things for this post.  Would that be considered working on Labor Day?

Steinert.  Blunt

Geech.  Noseblunt

On to the next spot. . .

We spotted this ledge on the way into the ditch and figured we’d come back and see if it was shredable. It was.  Pat Villa with the frontside boardslide.

Steinert.  Noseslide

Then we got the boot from the 2nd floor of the parking garage by the most biter old man.  Probably because he was working Labor Day.  Go easy old fella.

We got a little lost trying to find the highway but found some marble ledges in the process.  Marble ledges with security guards who were more concerned with where their Chinese take-out was than us skating.  Geech should have the video up sooner than later.  Pat had the best little line which did not include this 50-50.

Crooks.

Made our way to Philly after thinking the Chinese delivery person was a security guard.  Psssssh, we were over the spot anyway.  Ain’t never scurrrrrred.

No LOVE here.

Philly ended up starting with this . . .

And ending with long talks about skating over these . . .

Thanks for hanging out with us and opening up The Gleaner’s Cafe so we could get recharged on caffeine Steve.  Got to FDR just in time for it to get dark.

Dropped Funky off at his apartment that’s “not in the ghetto” and rolled back to the 610.

Hope you all enjoyed your Labor Day Weekend as much as I did.  Summer’s not over if you don’t want it to be.
