the final showdown: there were 32 but there can only be 1.

November 9, 2009 – 2:05 pm

Over the course of the Spring, Summer and Fall we held our own Berrics-style S.K.A.T.E. tournament with 32 local skaters.  Each skater threw in $10 into the pot for a chance to take the cash.  We got a long list of sponsors that included CONS, Skullcandy, Zoo York, Lost Soul, Mighty Healthy and many others to donate consolation prizes for the- “not winners.”

Every other Monday we held 2 matches, filmed them and posted them on YouTube for everyone and their mom’s to follow.  I guess we could have taken side bets on who the winner would be but hey, we’ll leave the gambling to The Sands.

Thanks to everyone who skated, our sponsors, the guest judges, all our sponsors and Brian, Derek and Funky for helping me edited the last few videos.

And now, the final match which was played during the Halloween Skatejam:

Kyle Dalrymple vs. Dustin Martinez

* The 2nd match was the final winner versus Phil Chadbourn, the redemption bracket winner.

Kyle Dalrymple, the 2009 Homebase Saugy S.K.A.T.E. Showdown winner.

Kyle jumped into the tournament late, he bought out Andy Colbert’s placeafter Andy got called away for a job in NYC.  $20 to jump in and he took $300 home.  Congrats Kyle.
