8 years and still grinding

Like my homie JaguarNoNo said tonight, turn that 8 on it’s side and that’s how long we plan on supporting skating in the 610.

To all those who support Homebase by being loyal customers, skateplaza supporters, Monday Night Session shredders, LVAN artsy kids and shop lurkers. . .

You make all the work, stress and countless hours grinding worthwhile.

Today we celebrated the official day Homebase opened its doors for all of us who have wanted something better for the 610 skateboard scene.  This is for the older heads who grew up without a shop supporting their passion but did it anyway.

This is for the younger heads just coming into their skating prime, witnessing history being made for skateboarding in the 610 who realize the foundation laid down by previous generations.

It’s not about being better than any other shop- it’s doing whatever it takes to keep our scene alive and growing.

With the support of friends and family Homebase opened up in a  tiny space on S. New St 8 years ago and now are a part of a bustling business community on 4th St next to Eskandalo, Loose Threads, Sotto Santi and the other successful businesses that dot the block.

I take pride in being neighbors with such determined and like-minded independent business owners who, like me are carving a living out of pursuing their dreams.  It’s a tough economy but I’m inspired by them to make sure I hustle harder.

I hope you all take pride in this birthday because you are just as much of a part of it as I am.  We don’t exist without the scene and I would not want to serve any other scene. The fact that outsiders come to the 610, feel the vibe our scene has and they come keep coming back with more homies just let’s me know we’re all doing the right thing.  Enjoy your piece of birthday cake.

Thanks to Josh, Kyle, Ashley and Romeo (best puppy ever) for bringing us cake.

We’ll see you all on Sunday for the REAL PARTY:
